Rondout Creek Public Kayak Access

Description:

With the support of NYS Environmental Protection Fund through the NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary Program, this project will include the purchase of a new commercial ADA kayak dock and launch system for the City of Kingston, on the Rondout Creek; and will support the installation of this system on the Rondout Creek. The Project Manager for this work is the City’s Sustainability Project Manager, Julie Noble, in collaboration with the Parks and Recreation Laborers and DPW staff as appropriate. The Objective of this project is to provide safe and accessible kayak and canoe access to the public on the Rondout Creek. The direct removal of previously existing deteriorated assets has been completed. The new design will be used to procure a replacement commercial grade, manufactured and professionally constructed, and accessible kayak launch system. The Rondout Creek Kayak Dock Replacement Project will construct necessary physical improvements to existing amenities at the Rondout Creek at TR Gallo Park, at Kingston’s only dock-based public, free kayak launch site. Kingston is home to 23,000 people and is located directly on the shorelines of the Hudson River with over 1.5 miles of Hudson River shoreline. Kingston is also located along the Rondout Creek, with over a mile and a half of waterfront, though with very minimal public access. The new system will be a universally accessible launch on the Rondout Creek, open to the general public for free use 365 days per year, dawn until dusk daily. The park is under the management of the Parks and Recreation Department, who will oversee proper use and maintenance of the new infrastructure

The scope of work for this project is manufacturing and installation of an ADA compliant, accessible and adaptive public kayak launch system. The Contractor shall provide the necessary labor, construction equipment, materials, etc, as required for the successful completion of the project. All work shall conform to the Project Specifications and all applicable local, state and federal codes and regulations
