Quad-User Modular Glovebox System

Description:

Binghamton University intends to purchase a modular, quad-user glovebox system designed for controlled-atmosphere processing and handling of air- and moisture-sensitive materials. The system must meet or exceed the following minimum specifications:

 1. System Configuration

  • Quad-user configuration with modular expansion capability (e.g., main cabinet plus extension module).
  • Minimum internal workspace (per 1250-class module): 1250 mm (W) × 1000 mm (D) × 900 mm (H).
  • Leak rate ≤ 0.05 Vol%/h, meeting ISO 10648-2 Class 1 containment performance.
  • Construction: stainless steel interior (e.g., SUS304) with bolted side panels for serviceability.
  • Front (and back, if double-sided module) windows sloped for ergonomics; polycarbonate with hard coating for scratch/chemical resistance.
  • Integrated shelving and workspace lighting.

2. Atmosphere Purification

  • Automatic inert-gas purification with a circulation loop and filter column suitable for gloveboxes up to ~2 m³
  • Purifier capacity sufficient to achieve and maintain < 1 ppm O2 and < 1 ppm H2O under normal operation.
  • Electro-pneumatically controlled main valves with automatic regeneration sequencing.
  • Circulation blower rated to at least 22 m³/h with vibration-dampened mounting and minimal heat load.

3. Atmosphere & Pressure Control

  • Compatible with N2, Ar, or He working gases.
  • Automatic box pressure control adjustable from −15 mbar to +15 mbar; foot-switch override for rapid setpoint changes.
  • Box purge function with flow capability up to ~200 L/min (operator-adjustable).
  • HEPA H13 filtration on gas inlet and outlet lines.

4. Materials & Construction

  • Stainless steel gas and vacuum plumbing with KF DN40 (or equivalent) ports for accessories and future expansion.
  • Gloves: butyl, ~0.4 mm thickness (size L or equivalent), with 220 mm gloveports (minimum 2 per module, front; extension modules may be double-sided).
  • Internal charcoal trap for organic vapor mitigation.

5. Antechambers

  • Primary antechamber: nominal Ø 390 mm × 600 mm length with sliding transfer tray; manually actuated doors.
  • Secondary mini-vacuum oven antechamber: nominal 150 mm × 400 mm length; temperature control to 150°C with independent PID controller.
  • Mini-oven AC to support evacuated-only heating cycles; vendor to specify any additional vacuum pump requirements for proper operation.

6. Monitoring & Diagnostics

  • Solid-state moisture analyzer with a measurement range of ~0–500 ppm (analog output 0–10 V or equivalent digital).
  • Solid-state oxygen analyzer with a measurement range of ~0–1000 ppm (analog output 0–10 V or equivalent digital).
  • Diagnostic dashboard via PLC/HMI for pressure, purge status, blower operation, valve states, and filter/regeneration status.

7. Feedthroughs & Interfaces

  • Electrical feedthrough (e.g., 115 V, single-phase) for inside-box power.
  • Gas/vacuum bulkhead feedthroughs (e.g., 3/8" stainless tube with ball valve).
  • RF/Signal feedthrough (e.g., BNC, 4?pin, double-sided) suitable to ~10 MHz.
  • Minimum of five DN40 KF flanges available for user installation of additional feedthroughs or utilities.
  • Provision for custom cut-out panel(s) (e.g., 45 mm diameter) with blanking plates.

8. Software, PLC, and Controls

  • PLC-based control with color touchscreen HMI (≈7″) for system operation and status.
  • Automatic sequencing for purifier regeneration and safety interlocks.
  • Energy-saving operation mode to minimize power consumption during standby.

9. Accessories, Services, and Commercial Terms

  • Rotary-vane vacuum pump (nominal 17 m³/h) with oil-mist filter and oil-return.
  • Layout drawing provided for customer approval prior to manufacturing.
  • On-site installation and operator training included (single visit; site must be ready with all utilities).
  • Warranty: minimum 3 years; vendor to provide unlimited phone/email support during warranty period.
