Energy Storage Technology and Product DevelopmentDescription: Description of goods to services to be bid: Revised July 9th, 2025, SUMMARY OF REVISIONS The following changes have been made to PON 5984, Energy Storage Technology and Product Development:
NYSERDA seeks to stimulate and grow energy storage solutions in electrical, mechanical, chemical, and thermal to electric energy storage innovation portfolios in NY State. Despite advances in these storage technologies, and ever-increasing numbers of deployments, several technological optimization opportunities still exist including initial pilots and demonstrations, hardware cost reductions, enhanced system performance (efficiency, life cycle and thermal stability), and demonstration of effective integration with the grid. Improving and optimizing these areas will accelerate growth of electrical energy storage deployments. Eligible storage solutions must enable the capture of electrical or thermal energy (from the grid, thermal generation project site, or directly from renewables) store that energy, and then return electricity back to the grid, or to a project site. If changes are made to this solicitation notification will be posted on NYSERDA’s website at: www.nyserda.ny.gov/funding-opportunities Eligibility/Qualifications Requirements/Preferences: This solicitation is focused on advancing, developing, and field testing those electric, chemical, mechanical, and thermal to electric storage technologies that will address cost, performance, and grid integration challenges in NY State. Innovative advanced, next-generation batteries of all durations and long duration energy storage technologies (LDES) with durations of 10+ to 100+ hours which are yet to be commercialized will be considered in this PON. Energy Storage Solutions, which deliver a minimum of 10 hours duration at rated power capacity for LDES, of interest for PON 59845779 include, but are not limited to Electrochemical, Mechanical, Thermal, and Advanced, Next Generation Battery storage technologies.
