Winches:

There are close to 100 hand crank winches, of different sizes, that keep the floating docks in place. These winches are spaced out along each dock system. The winches are connected, by a cable, to underground anchor points. They are a spur gear style hand winch that range from ½ ton to 5 ton capacity per winch. These winches are mounted to posts on the side frame rails of the docks. Over the last 30 years, along with flooding and ice damage, these winches are in need being replaced.

Floats (Drum)

The Marina’s docks are a floating dock system. All of the dock’s walkways and fingers, that the boats tie to, have multiple floats or float drums to support them. These floats are foam filled, one piece shell constructed with heavy mounting flanges and structural ribs. There are close to 1200 floats, of different sizes, to support the docks that are of various sizes. A majority of these floats have been in the water close to 30 years. (A limited number have already been changed). Over that length of time there is wear from UV rays, ice damage and water movement.

Rub Rail:

All of the docks have a black, ‘P’ shaped, 3” tall rubber rail around them. This rub rail helps to protect the docks from boats rubbing or hitting into them. There is approximately 15,000 feet of rub rail wrapping all of the dock’s walkways and fingers. UV light and rubbing/hitting make the rub rail brittle and crack.

Dock Corners:

Dock corners are black, rubber, corner, or ‘L’ shaped, pieces that protect the corner of the dock if it were to be hit by a boat. This piece also helps protect the boat from damage.

Cable:

The docks are held in place by Galvanized Wire Rope (EIPS IWRC - 6x19 Class) cable system. Assorted sizes are 3/8”, 1/2”, 5/8" and 1”. These cables are hooked under the water to special underground anchors then they are wound on to the dock winches that are spaced out along the docks. Different size cable is used in the different size winches that are here.
