June 11, 2024: The following changes have been made to PON 4371: Strategic Energy Management
• Revision of due dates:
- SEM On Demand Application accepted through June 30, 2025 by 3:00 PM Eastern Time
- Virtual Treasure Hunt Application accepted through October 31, 2025 by 3:00 PM Eastern Time
• Updates to the descriptions of the SEM On Demand and Virtual Treasure Hunt processes
a) SEM On Demand: participants establish organization-wide energy management commitments that will help them meet their energy, environmental, resilience, and/or other company goals or local mandates.
- Applications received through June 30, 2024: participants attend a series of five virtual SEM workshops delivered by an SEM Coach over an approximately one-year cycle and receive a treasure hunt to identify both low-/no-cost projects and capital projects. In the second year of engagement, SEM Coaches support the energy management programs at participant sites through check-in calls, encouraging treasure hunt project completion, and tracking energy performance.
- Applications received July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025: participants attend a series of five virtual SEM workshops delivered by an SEM Coach over an approximately one-year and receive a treasure hunt to identify both low-/no-cost projects and capital projects.
b) Virtual Treasure Hunts (Applications received through October 31, 2025): use a virtual energy audit approach that leverages on-site staff, supported remotely by skilled energy auditors to identify energy saving opportunities, prioritize findings, and calculate the potential savings. Virtual Treasure Hunts are no longer limited to ten (10) per year.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

May 24, 2022: The following changes have been made to PON 4371 Strategic Energy Management:

1. Participants are no longer required to show proof of payment into SBC with their application
2. Participants are now required to submit the Participant Agreement with their application
3. Updates to the descriptions of the SEM On Demand and Virtual Treasure Hunt processes, as well as updates the Virtual Treasure Hunt limits (from a total of 25 per year to 10 per year; six industrial and four commercial)

 

November 17, 2020:  The following changes have been made to PON 4371: Strategic Energy Management:

1.  Removal of the Industrial Strategic Energy        Management Cohort Training component

2. Renamed Self-serve SEM to SEM On Demand

This New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Program Opportunity Notice (PON) 4371 seeks applications from facilities that are interested in adopting Strategic Energy Management (SEM) practices at their facilities. There are two (2) specific components to this PON. Applications will be accepted for the following:


1. SEM On Demand: is a remote-learning training program that features one-on-one technical support and guidance to facilitate the adoption of SEM. SEM On Demand helps facilities identify low and no cost ways to reduce their energy consumption in the short term, with strategies for maintaining the cost-reduction business practices long term. This program focuses on flexible, practical solutions for reducing energy costs within the recognizable framework of continuous improvement.
2. Virtual Treasure Hunts: use a virtual energy audit approach that leverages on-site staff, supported remotely by skilled energy auditors, to identify energy saving opportunities, prioritize findings, and calculate the potential savings. These virtual treasure hunts are available to 25 facilities, and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

JULY 14, 2020:  The following changes have been made to PON 4371: Strategic Energy Management
1. The title of the solicitation has changed from Industrial Strategic Energy Management to Strategic Energy Management
2. The addition of virtual treasure hunts
3. The addition of self-serve SEM

This New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Program Opportunity Notice (PON) 4371 seeks applications from facilities that are interested in adopting Strategic Energy Management practices at their facilities. There are three (3) specific components to this PON. Applications will be accepted for the following:
1. Industrial Strategic Energy Management Cohort Training: is a fully funded Strategic Energy Management (“SEM”) training program (the “Program”). By participating in the Program, the industrial facility will gain access to training, coaching, and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing to continuously enhance energy efficiency at their facilities. Participation will be offered to industrial sites with an annual energy spend of $500,000 or more (all fuels). Participants must be willing to share results and lessons learned to further the program’s objective of increasing the penetration of Strategic Energy Management at industrial facilities. Participants in this component go through will complete the training as a cohort. As such, there will be annual close dates for entry into each cohort. 2. Virtual Treasure Hunts: use a virtual energy audit approach that leverages on-site staff supported remotely by skilled energy auditors, to identify energy saving opportunities, prioritize findings, and calculate the potential savings. These virtual treasure hunts are available to 25 facilities, and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
3. Self-Serve Strategic Energy Management: is a self-guided and self-paced alternative to the cohort training. This program uses the United States Department of Energy’s 50001 Ready Navigator platform as the backbone of the training, with additional targeted technical support and guidance, resources, and materials.

Eligibility/Qualifications Requirements/Preferences:

Eligible Program Participants include NYS industrial facilities with annual energy costs that exceed $500,000 (all fuels) and that contribute to the System Benefits Charge (SBC) on their electric utility bills. In addition, Energy Champions must have the ability to travel to cohort meetings to receive the SEM trainings.
