New York Peer Specialist Independent Practice Association (IPA)Description: The New York State (NYS) Office of Mental Health (OMH) is committed to advancing and promoting the professional development and in-discipline support and supervision of the Peer Support Service professions. As the demand for qualified and competent peer support staff grows, and the disciplines of family and youth advocates and peer specialists continue to evolve and expand, the need for delivery of high quality, evidence-based training and professional support becomes paramount to the success of these professions. As well, the technical support needed for entities implementing peer services is crucial to maintain the integrity of the workforce. It is then critical to ensure fidelity to these models with the provision of professional support that clearly identifies the fundamental role that peer workers can play in supporting recovery and wellness while recognizing that there are tasks and responsibilities that peer workers should not be asked to perform in the course of promoting authentic peer support within the establish scope of practice of this discipline. The goal of this RFP is to promote the IPA as a centralized and consistent state-wide entity that provides leadership, support and direction around the growth and advancement in the fields by assisting Peer Specialists and organizations implementing peer support work.
