Multiport Surface Characterization Analyzer

Description:

Binghamton University intends to procure a fully automated gas sorption analyzer designed for high-resolution characterization of specific surface area and pore size distributions. The system must meet or exceed the following minimum specifications:

  1. Instrument Configuration
  • The analyzer must support multiport operation, including:

o             One port configured for micropore analysis

o             Two ports configured for mesopore analysis

  • All ports must operate independently or simultaneously to enable high-throughput analysis.
  1. Measurement Capabilities
  • Must provide high-resolution physisorption analysis to determine:

o             Specific surface area

o             Pore volume

o             Pore size distributions

  • Capable of resolving pores in the range of 0.35 to 500 nm
  • Minimum measurable surface area must be:

o             0.01 m2/g, and as low as 0.0005 m2/g using low-pressure adsorptives (e.g., krypton)

  1. Gas Compatibility
  • Compatible with non-corrosive gases, including but not limited to:

o             Nitrogen (N ), Oxygen (0 ), Argon (Ar), Krypton (Kr), Carbon Dioxide (CO ), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Hydrogen (H ), and Butane

  1. Vacuum Performance
  • The vacuum system must include:

o             A turbo molecular drag pump in series with a four-stage diaphragm pump

  • Achieve an ultimate vacuum of 3. 75 x 1 o-i mm Hg
  • Manifold outgas rate must be less than 0.1 1,.1m/min
  1. Pressure Transducer Accuracy
  • System must be equipped with transducers meeting or exceeding:

o             ±0.12% of reading at 1000 mmHg and 10 mmHg (resolution?? 0.0001 mmHg)

o             ±0.15% of reading at 0.1 mmHg (resolution ?? 0.000001 mmHg)

  1. Thermal and Cryogen Control
  • Must include passive isothermal cryogen jacket or equivalent mechanism to maintain cryogenic conditions at the sample tube
  1. System Materials and Valving
  • Construction must feature:

o             Stainless steel gas lines, VCR connections, and a leak-tight manifold

o             Pneumatically actuated, hard-seal valves to ensure clean, contamination-free operation

  1. Software and Diagnostics
  • Must include a comprehensive software suite providing:

o             Instrument control and real-time data acquisition

o             Customizable reporting and advanced data analysis

o             Diagnostic dashboard for monitoring system performance and maintenance status

  1. Accessories
  • The analyzer must be compatible with an external degassing unit capable of preparing samples under vacuum or inert gas flow at elevated temperatures prior to analysis
  • The analyzer must be compatible with a Peltier Temperature Control Device capable of maintaining a constant temperature between 0°C and 80°C
