Bureau Brothers timber sale at Huntington Forest/Newcomb (Revenue Contract)Description: The College is soliciting bids from responsible buyers for harvest of timber located on Hunginton Wildlife Forest, NewComb, NY(Essex County). Approximately 20 acres of timber is to be harvested (see attached for timber inventory details, location map, etc.). The harvest area is accessed from State Route 28N, Newcomb, NY 12852. Access is only permitted between July through October during frozen or dry conditions; no harvesting can occur during summer months. Within Area 1 there are 34 patch cuts approximately 0.4 acres in size marked with double blue dots facing into the patch cut and a vertical blue stripe visible from outside the patch cut. Within these patch cuts all trees down to 1” DBH must be cut. In Area 2 all trees marked with yellow paint along the skid trail must be cut. Within Area 3 there is 0.5 acre patch cut marked with double blue dots facing into the patch cut and a vertical blue stripe visible from outside the patch cut, there all trees down to 1” DBH must be cut. There is also 4.5 acres of shelterwood treatment bound by double blue dots, within these areas all trees marked with blue paint must be cut. Prior to any skidding within Area 1, all of Area 2 must be harvested and skidded to the landing area. The main skid trail accessing Area 1 must have all BMP’s installed as identified on attached map prior to any skidding. These BMP’s include corduroying areas marked on attached map and identified on the ground with pink paint using a “CS” to indicate where corduroy is to start and “CE” where corduroy can end. Within these areas all cordoroy used must be a minimum of 2” in diameter at the base and laid perpendicular to the skid trail. In areas marked on the attached map to “Drain Trail” and marked on the ground with pink paint using a “D” appropriate cross drainage must be constructed at that point in the skid trail prior to any skidding. Areas marked on the attached map to “Install Crossing” and marked on the ground with pink paint using an “X” must have an appropriate crossing that meets New York State Best Management Practices for Water Quality, and is approved by THE COLLEGE, constructed prior to any skidding. Any other skid trail not shown on this map that crosses a stream, or wetland must also be constructed using corduroy – poles greater than 4” in diameter laid perpendicular to the trail and extending at least two feet beyond each side of the trail. Corduroy must be installed prior to skidding. All timber harvesting operations must meet or exceed New York State BMP’s. Only landings shown on the attached map may be used unless written permission is otherwise provided in advance. Timber showing date: 10/23/2025 at 9:00 am.
